(Last update 4/13/09 2:40PM by StL_Stadtroller)
Ladies and Gents, mark your calenders, as the local monstrosity know as the Mishifts S.C. is pleased to announce that the second annual Damn Ride is set for April 17-19, 2009. That's the third weekend in April, for those without handy access to a calendar. We will meet again this year at the wonderfully accommodating Shoreland Motel (noted for Comfort, Cleanliness, and courtesy) on the kitchy-cool Osage Beach strip, 2 blocks south of the Bangell Dam, for sure.
This year's events will be very similar to last year's. Last year we met at the hotel on Friday afternoon, greeted and socialized for awhile, and then formed two groups and scooted to dinner at a local restaurant (one group opted for the local steak house JB Hooks and the other a more budget friendly buffet near-by). We returned to the hotel after dinner for more socializing, drinking, and goofing on into the night. Saturday morning breakfast was had at Stewarts, a local greasy spoon with enormously large cinnamon rolls that sits just across the street from the hotel. At 11AM we departed on the scooter ride around the lake. Although early spring, the ride was noted for blooming trees (there's a dogwood festival going on in near-by Camdenton), and twisty, winding roads. I think the average speed limit was about 45MPH, so please make sure your scooter is capable of that and is capable in hilly situations. Half-way around the lake we stopped for lunch at Big Dick's Half-way Inn. We ended up cutting our ride short because it was a bit chilly and damp (please come prepared for all weather conditions). I think the ride, with lunch, lasted about 4 hours. Back at the hotel some folks departed for the miniature golf and go-carts near-by on the strip. Saturday evening was spent back at the hotel, on the patio with a roaring fire, BBQ, drinks, and good cheer. Sunday morning brought sunshine and most folks had a terrific ride up to a near-by state park. Afterward, we said our good-byes and headed for home.
So, with the above description in mind, here is the final agenda for the ride:
The Dam Ride!
FRIDAY
2PM-7PM Meet/Greet at hotel
7PM-9PM Dinner (on you, TBD on site)
9PM-ON Socializing & Booze around the bonfire (BYOB!)
SATURDAY
8AM-10:30AM Rise and eat (breakfast on you at Stewarts, at your leisure)
11AM-4PM Dam Ride! - Please be gased up and ready to roll at 11AM!
Shoreland Hotel to Versailles: 28 miles / 1hr - including the chance to stop for a scenic group pictures under the Dam. (I allowed for 15 minutes or so for on optional scenic overlook detour)
Versailles to BD's: 24 miles / 40 minutes
BD's back to the Shoreland: 29 miles / 45 minutes
4PM-7PM Mini-golf, go-carts, explore strip, etc
7PM-9PM Cook out provided by the Mishifts (burgers, brats, etc - BYOB!) at the hotel
9PM-ON Socializing on patio by fire
SUNDAY
8AM-11AM Rise and eat (breakfast on you at Stewarts, at your leisure)
11AM-2PM Optional Sunday ride (TBD - Camdenton Dogwood Festival, Hahatonka SP, etc)
2PM Check-out, final farewells
Couple things to note: the weather is hard to predict, although most of our event last year was dry, it was chilly in the AM and overcast for the most part. Sunday was brilliantly sunny. I would think weather conditions will be similar this year. Come prepared.

Lazy K is to your left as you pull in, Camp Bagnell is straight ahead on the gravel driveway (white building)

Sa-weeeeet!!!! Last year was a really great time! As long as I don't have any major tests or projects pending, I'm there.
As for the camping, the place down on the river was GREAT. And they have a cool bar/restaurant. I also found a backroad (for the slower machines) that'd get us all there without rollin' the big road if we wanted to hit that place up for dinner on Friday or Saturday night.
Just a suggestion
Of course, I'll be camping down by the river if all goes well. _________________

last year was a great time! I'll be there representing the CoMo contingent and I'm pretty sure Matty will be as well. I'm stocking up on plenty of those little license plates beforehand. _________________ Craig

Safety tip: no "princess" mini-plates this year
I will be there, maybe solo, maybe with the better half.
I would like to camp this year, but may end up going for the motel. It's tough to pass on that FREE COLOR TV.
[edit] For those who trailer up for the first time this year, we'll take it easy on ya. But if Shirley and Jeff show up with their rides on the back of a trailer... oh god... its' so ON. |

Have not spoke to him, but did see him online on the site the day everything went public. I believe info was all relayed on to Southenders, Mad totos and such...

I think Rufus is on board... we've been talking back and forth on the Bajaj forum. He's working on getting his old school BMW (motorbike, not scooter) running and riding that up.
Also... don't want to rock the boat but if I can put in my 2 cents... I kind of thought the food at the Halfway Inn was gross. |

I'm down with this, or up with this, or whatvar the hip way is to say it. Spoke to John the other day and he wants to come up and show off his 250 Honda scooter.
I am committed to getting the Big Scooter running to add some style and German engineering to the parade. She ran like a champ when .... but I don't want to jinx things til I hear her thumpin'.
What about KC, do they have intentions ????

If you plan on coming and are making or have made a reservation at the hotel, please let us know here. We need to get an idea how much food to bring for Saturday night. Thanks. _________________ Matthew

I 'wonder' less each day as work progresses. New battery arrived and have couple of niggling electrickal things to iron out. Starter refurb'd and got hot blue fire from both plugs yesterday. Yay, 38 yr old coils and plug wires still work. (them Germans make good shit) USPS tracking says that last of my carb parts are in my mailbox, but it's too damned cold and nasty to work today. Forced to drink beer.
Mildest winter in decades down here. Hit 70 last week and will do it again this week. I predict warm weather for the DamN Ride.
John said he will book our room but I have to confirm. Lurked on the Toto site and it appears that some KC crew will attend. Cool, sounds like the event will grow.
It's gonna be good _________________ 2002 Chetak White BackRack |

Happened to find myself in Waynesville yesterday and had 20 minutes to kill downtown. Walked over to a coffee shop that had a purty red Vespa LX50? sitting out front. Met the chick/girl/lady owner and discussed the the proximity of Bagnell Dam.
We may have a contingent of 4 lady scoots visit as it's only 35 minutes from the dam. _________________ 2002 Chetak White BackRack |
